New Apprentices and Major Projects Keep Teams Moving

It has been another busy few months at Gray & Sons, with major projects progressing across the business while we continue to invest in the next generation of our workforce.

We’re pleased to welcome three new apprentices to the team: Ryan Hamnett and Louie Schofield, who have joined us as apprentice joiners, and Lewis Stones, who has started as an apprentice painter and decorator.

All three have made a great start, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm to the team. They’ll be starting their relevant College courses over the coming weeks, combining practical experience on site led by our expert team along with strucutred formal training at College as they begin their careers in the construction industry.

For us, investing in apprentices is about more than developing individual skills. It’s about building a skilled workforce for the future and giving young people the opportunity to learn from experienced members of our team while gaining valuable hands-on experience that they can take forward. 

A summer of Progress at Gray & Sons

Alongside welcoming our new apprentices, the summer has been a particularly busy period for the Gray & Sons team, with a number of significant projects progressing simultaneously.

We have been working on the second Relay store at Heathrow, which is being handed over today, alongside four major school projects. Managing multiple projects at the same time has required close coordination between our teams, clients, contractors and suppliers to ensure each stage is delivered efficiently and to the required standard - another reason why we pride ourselves on close working relationships. 

The first phase of the school projects has now been successfully handed over, marking an important milestone for the teams involved. Phase two is now underway and will continue throughout September and October, with a programme of carefully planned night-shift works helping to minimise disruption and maintain progress while the schools remain operational.

The range of work being delivered across these projects reflects the breadth of expertise within Gray & Sons. Our teams have been involved in both the transformation of the spaces themselves and the detailed finishing work required to bring each project together.

Across the various sites, works completed and currently underway include:

• Full redecoration

• Flooring

• New ceilings

• Acoustic panelling

• New doors

• Kitchens

• Living walls

• Bespoke joinery items

• External metal doors

• Electrical works

• Plumbing works

• Window blinds

From the initial preparation through to the final finishing touches, these projects require careful planning and collaboration. The ability of our teams to manage this varied scope of work while maintaining high standards has been key to keeping projects moving across what has been an exceptionally busy period.

The successful handover of phase one is a great achievement for everyone involved, while the continued progress of phase two gives us plenty to look forward to over the coming months.
